You get the key as part of the story when you complete the events in the snowy region Orkutsk. You cannot miss the key and you cannot get the key early.

To make the Liquid Metal Sword you need the rusty old sword from Trodain , an orichalcum, and a slime crown. If you continue the game after the credits roll and create a save, you will have access to what is referred to as the post-game.

During the post game it is possible that the enemy Invisible Swordsman will drop the rusty old sword. If you go completely through the areas in the post game you may be able to get a Dragovian Sword which you can then combine with the Liquid Metal Sword to make a Dragovian King Sword thru alchemy.
